Who We Are
Community Connects (CmCn) is a student-led initiative dedicated to helping students succeed through tutoring and mentorship. Our goal is to make academic support more accessible while creating a collaborative environment where students can learn from and support one another.
Currently based in the McLean, Great Falls, and Vienna communities, CmCn connects motivated student tutors with those who need help in their studies. By bringing students together locally, we aim to strengthen our community through learning, collaboration, and shared success.
Why Us
CmCn is built by students, for students. Our tutors are high-achieving students accepted into selective universities who understand today’s curriculum firsthand, making explanations more relatable and practical. We focus on in-person sessions to improve communication and collaboration while keeping costs lower than professional services. Tutors also gain real leadership and teaching experience while giving it back to their community.

CmCn offers tutoring in a variety of core academic subjects such as math, science, English, and other subjects depending on tutor availability. Our goal is to support students in the areas where they need the most help, and we work to match students with tutors who are confident in the subject they are teaching.

Tutoring sessions are arranged based on student needs and tutor availability. We aim to keep sessions small or one-on-one so students can receive focused support and ask questions freely. Sessions are conducted in person, where we create a comfortable environment where students can build confidence and improve their understanding.

In-person tutoring often allows for better focus, communication, and engagement. Students can ask questions more easily and tutors can quickly see where a student may be struggling. Face-to-face learning also reduces distractions that can happen during online sessions, leading to a more productive learning experience.

Most tutoring sessions can be held at the student’s home, as many of our tutors are able to drive to the student’s location. For tutors who are unable to travel far, sessions will instead be held at one of our designated meeting locations chosen to be convenient, safe, and suitable for learning. Specific details will be arranged when scheduling each session.

CmCn not only supports students who need help, but also gives tutors valuable real-world experience. Tutors develop leadership, communication, and teaching skills that can help them in future academic and career opportunities. It also allows students to give back to their community in a meaningful way, creating a supportive environment where both tutors and learners benefit.

Tutoring sessions typically range from $60 - $100 per hour, depending on the subject and level of difficulty. Standard academic subjects generally fall on the lower end of the range, while specialized tutoring such as SAT or test preparation may be priced higher. Our tutors are highly accomplished students with strong academic backgrounds, allowing them to provide high-quality, personalized support while still remaining more affordable than many professional tutoring services. Exact pricing will be discussed when scheduling sessions.
